MSc Applied Economics Full Scholarship

The MSc Applied Economics programme offers more than $200,000 in scholarships in total, to outstanding successful applicants of both intakes each year.

1.  2 x full scholarships of $34,000 (programme fee waiver + $6000 stipend)

2.  4 x tuition scholarships of $28,000 (programme fee waiver)

3.  4 x tuition scholarships of $14,000 ( half programme fee waiver) 

 

Awards 


1. Ng Yew Kwang Award in Applied Economics

The Ng Yew Kwang Award is given to the top master student with the highest GGPA in each intake of the programme.   The student will receive an award certificate and $500.

Professor Ng Yew Kwang (黄有光, known as Yew-Kwang Ng in academia), has been Chair Professor of Economics at NTU since Jan 2013. Globally renowned in welfare economics, Professor Ng is a fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. In 2007, he received the highest award, Distinguished Fellow, of the Economic Society of Australia, becoming its first non-European award recipient. Professor Ng has authored and co-authored more than 30 books, 40 academic chapters, and published over 250 articles in leading academic journals in economics, biology, cosmology, infometrics, mathematics, philosophy, psychology, and sociology. In 2018, he delivered the inaugural Atkinson Memorial lecture at Oxford University.

2. Chew Soon Beng Award in Teaching Excellence

The Chew Soon Beng Award in Teaching Excellence  is provided to the teaching faculty member of the MSc in Applied Economics Programme with the highest teaching ratings over the academic year.

Chew Soon Beng (
周孙铭) was the founding director of MSc in Applied Economics Programme during 2012-2018. He was a full professor of economics at NTU from 1999 to 2018. Currently, Dr Chew is an Adjunct Professor at the Nanyang Centre for Public Administration and a Senior Fellow at the Rajaratnam School of International Studies, NTU. During his tenure at NTU, Dr Chew has won best teacher award for many years. In 2016, he was a recipient of the Certificate of Honour for Mentorship in NTU.

      Professor Chew Soon Been graduated from Nanyang University (南洋大学) with a Bachelor degree in 1971 and obtained his PhD in Economics from University of Western Ontario, Canada in 1979. He has been an academic in Singapore since then. His publications focus mainly on Labour Markets and Labour Unions. He started running executive programmes in Chinese and in English in Nanyang Business School in 1992 and created the Master programme in Managerial Economics (MME) in 1998. The MME is well known as the Mayor’s Class (市长班) programme for senior officials from China to appreciate the political economy of public policy in Singapore. ​​​​​
