The government and academia can work together more closely to tackle issues ranging from ageing populations to the impact of climate change on economy. Education Minister Ong Ye Kung said this at the Singapore Economic Review conference hosted by the Singapore Economic Review and NTU. Prof Euston Quah, head of Economics at NTU, shared how threats like the US-China trade war can actually lead to positive change. He said, "The [Singapore] state could then, through private-public partnership, look at how they could be synergising their efforts to mitigate this. And also to discover new things for example, there would be an emphasis on... alleviating structural unemployment, how to increase efficiency and productivity."
