The School of Social Sciences (SSS) Club welcomed its second committee on 17 October 2018 with an investiture ceremony held at the HSS Auditorium. Dr Tan Joo Ean, Associate Chair (Students) of the School of Social Sciences, was the guest-of-honour for the evening. Dr Tan is also the SSS Club Advisor.
Dr Tan expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the first SSS Club Main Management Committee for their hard work, dedication and contribution to the School of Social Sciences over the past year. She commended their courage for taking up the challenge of spearheading the newly formed club. She wishes them success in their future endeavours.
She wished the 2nd SSS Club MMC a fruitful year ahead with various inclusive activities planned for the school and her students.
Outgoing first committee Honorary Financial Secretary, Ivan Lee (Year 4, Economics), said a few words as well. He conveyed the gratitude of the 1st MMC to the newly invested 2nd MMC. Ivan reemphasised the journey of being in the SSS Club MMC is not going to be an easy one, but he encouraged the 2nd MMC to believe in their cause and to strive ahead to provide the best we can to the students of SSS. He ended his speech by wishing the 2nd MMC a meaningful and fun journey this year.
SSS Club’s incoming president, Tom Lim (Year 2, Economics), acknowledged the diversity of the newly elected committee. He highlighted the Club’s main aim: to strengthen the SSS family identity and emphasised the Club’s objective in supporting the student body more holistically. This included collaboration with the University Wellbeing Centre, catering to student welfare, career development of the SSS student body and organising more social events. He hoped that they would build on the success of the first committee, and continue to create a close-knit SSS community comprising current students and alumni who would give back to the School wholeheartedly.
The School of Social Sciences extends our heartiest congratulations to the 2nd SSS Club Committee and wish them the very best in their term this academic year!
