The second study of Singaporeans’ mental health is conducted by Institute of Mental Health, Ministry of Health and NTU. The study interviewed 6,000 people and the research team found that one in seven people have experienced mental disorders. They analysed the prevalence, trend and effects of mental health conditions such as bipolar disorder, alcohol dependence, anxiety and so on. Prof Kwok Kian Woon from NTU’s Sociology division said that people should be more aware of mental health issues as the encouragement from friends and family can help patients who are unwilling to seek professional help in overcoming their issues.
